I have a serious job to do between now and Nov. 4. As the Unaffiliated (Independent) candidate running for the office of Dist. 1 Commissioner in Park County, I need to educate and inform you about my view of the current state of Park County and how we can move into the future. It is my responsibility to explain why I am the candidate with the strongest professional background for this office and why a vote for me on Nov. 4 is a vote for your future.
This is the time in the election process when voters should become energized about their options. In 2008, voters have an unprecedented opportunity to decide whether the policies of our current Board of County Commissioners are the kind which will move us forward. It is my hope that voters will take the time to see what each candidate offers and voice their support accordingly with their votes.
As an Unaffiliated candidate, I bring a vision of Park County Government which is not beholden to party platforms or agendas. The work that officials perform on the local level is most immediately seen and felt by residents. Government services the needs of people, not the needs of government. And that work should be performed to enhance the prosperity of our county and its residents rather than addressing the desires of a select few.
I am about action...not agendas. The historical record shows how deep political alliances and political agendas run. The work is not, in plain and simple terms, being done to benefit the citizens of Park County. Our economic picture is bleak, and we can't afford to keep looking the other way.
Where do we stand today? Park County is faltering. We lack the kind of effective leadership that will take us into the future. Partisanship clearly overshadows consensus building. Infrastructure is falling apart. Mistrust in our elected officials is at an all-time high.
Park County's annual budget has grown dramatically since 2001. The number of county employees has also grown, but services have declined. According to the Colorado State Demographer's Office, our population has grown approximately 15 percent from the year 2000, the year of the U.S. Census Bureau's last formal enumeration, to the end of 2007.
